A one year project funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) is underway in the rural community of Clonmore.

This historical project, “Clonmore Through The Years”, is co-ordinated by Clonmore Regeneration Group (CRG) sets to research the three key community focus points in the Clonmore area: Cintyclay Primary School; The Sacred Heart Chapel and Clonmore Robert Emmets GFC, and to showcase their histories through a combination of print, exhibition and audio-visual methods.

The Project

Why?

Over the past few years, like most parts of the region, Clonmore has witnessed development and changes in populations. It can be difficult, therefore, to maintain the passing on of local history through oral accounts – this CRG (Clonmore Regeneration Group) project was designed to protect the history of three main establishments of Clonmore by development of visual and written accounts of the stories of people connected with the church, football club and school. These are to provide an informative and affecting legacy for current and future generations of community members. The project is funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) who have been involved in planning the aims and activities of the project and have set out a number of outcomes which must be achieved by the end of the year.

What?

There are a number of aims to be fulfilled within the project, ultimately, to provide an inclusive opportunity for the people of Clonmore (existing inhabitants and those who have since moved) to provide their oral accounts and memories, photos and video footage with the end result of an all encompassing history of Clintyclay PS, Sacred Heart Chapel and Robert Emmet GFC.

Overview of Key Project Objectives:
•    Production of a booklet presenting written accounts of interviews based on the Sacred Heart Chapel, The Robert Emmets football club and Clintyclay PS.
•    Production of a DVD capturing footage of the oral accounts of the three aforementioned institutions
•    Development and delivery of a teaching pack for Primary School children centred on the impact of the football club
•    Creation of an exhibition and display, showcasing the project findings
•    Delivery of a celebration event to launch the materials and commemorate the project
