Naomh Labhaoise fall to Clann Eireann in u16 Championship
Naomh Labhaoise commenced a busy period for Championship football on Wednesday evening in the u16 Championship against Clann Eireann of Lurgan.
On a great night for football weather wise, the girls were well prepared for this match and also appreciated the input from our own County star Brendan Donaghy before the game and the large crowd who turned up to cheer on. This was always going to be a difficult match with the limited resources of a small rural club coming up against the might and experience of championship specialists Clann Eireann. From the whistle it was Clann Eireann who took the early initiative and were a goal ahead within minutes. The Clonmore defence held resolute throughout this difficult period and broke up many attacks and the forward line became more confident as the match went on. Even though the opposition were playing exhibition football, the forwards held their composure and scored 1.5 before the break, which was immense considering the tight marking of the Clans defence. Throughout the second half it was much tighter with many chances being created by the forwards and the heroics of Lauren Foy in the Clonmore goals keeping the score line respectable. Final score Naomh Labhaoise 2.6 Clann Eireann 6.10.The Match proved that for periods of the game the girls can compete with the best and year on year, it is obvious the improvements that have been made. Overall a very creditable performance against the favourites to lift the crown.Naomh labhaoise would like to congratulate Christine Hagan and Clann Eireann on the sporting way the game was played and keiran Mc keever of Ballyhegan who capably controlled the game as referee.
