This Sunday sees the annual Funday in Clonomre 2.30 to 5. Bouncy castles, races, tug o'war, penalty kick, poc fada, etc. and an it's a team knockout. To finish off there will be a match of ladies vs over 40's men. Everyone welcome, including the sun. Clean up on Sat morning 10am.

Clonmore are in the middle of a crowed bunch of teams in divsion 3 league. With this in mind it's unclear just what permutations could result. With an injured Joe Donaghy pressed into duty in full forward possibly it could have been Joes first goal in a match ever but it wasn't to be. There was a goal each in the game both withing minutes of each other however. There was a strong breeze down the field favouring the home side in the first half. With this and the lack of a regular full back the high ball resulted in their goal after a quick move allowed James Grimley to net well. There were two passes from the kickout won by James Fox to Brendan Donaghy with the ball over the top leaving James Grimley space to take the goal well. This should have given Clonmore a formula as to what to do for the rest of the game but poor passing and taking too much out of the play and slow frees negated this option. John Grimley scored some fine points but in general Clonmore's tackling was poor at times resulting in lots of frees. There were frees against Blackwatertown too but they had a higher return from theirs. Half time score 1-7 to 1-6.

It's likely that long balls from midfield with the wind put into forwards results in an increased chance of converted shots. This also saves the legs running the ball in. Clonmore did try this but too often the long ball went wide or awry. Joe Donaghy moved back to his usual spot and despite a troublesome injury tackled well, John Dynes and the two Mullen lads did well on their men. Raymond and Marty Convie did an amount of work around the pitch. James Fox and Shane Donnelly grafted away in the middle of the park. Brendan Donaghy didn't play his A game but tried till the end. Gerard Molloy was replaced by Ryan Donnelly who popped up well for a few balls. Paul Hamill came in for Ruari Cunningham who is just coming back from a niggling injury. Stephen Donaghy kept things together at the back. John and James Grimley continued to score the lions share. Stephen Grimley saved a shot or two and his kickouts were solid.

The experts tell us that core muscle training is the first step in increased strength and fitness, so by the same thinking core football skills will result in better play. In any team's game, in any given match, if the accuracy of passes and shots, coupled with good fielding and tackling, teamwork, communication, improved then the rest would follow. These are core skills that many teams lack but surely every player can work upon. In Clonmore's defence this was the first match in three weeks which can never be a good thing in the middle of a season and were missing a couple of regulars too. Let's hope the lads find a return to their previous best this year. It's not by accident that the Emmets are in the middle of the table, as they have had some great results this year and played some fine football. The best apples are at the top of the tree and there are a few rungs left to climb by the men in the green and gold.

Clonmore hadn’t beaten Collegelands in recent games and were keen to set the record straight.
From the throw in Clonmore were quickly on the attack and recorded the first score through James Grimley. With Clonmore quicker to the ball and winning midfield a second score quickly came. Clonmore continued to play well and with some of the younger players to the fore particularly Daniel Mullan and Martin Convie. The score at half time 0-7 to 1 -4.

Clonmore started the second half with Brendan Donaghy and Raymond Convie getting the better in midfield and James Grimley on form up front, Clonmore raced into a lead. Growing in confidence and playing some excellent football the scores came quickly through Brenan Donaghy and John and James Grimley. Near the end Shane Donnelly and James Fox combined to work a goal which sealed the match. Collegelands did force a good save from Stephen Grimley however Clonmore were never going to be caught. This was a good all round performance by the team and they displayed great fitness which the manager Ronan Murphy has to be credited with.

Building Progress—the new changing rooms are taking shape with Sean Molloy and his team working on the roof, the roof tiles have arrived and by the end of the week it is hoped that these will be fitted. Ryan Mulgrew and Paul Grimley have completed the first fix electrical work and preparations are being made to start the plumbing work. Workers will be required over the next few weeks to assist with various works around the building and it would be nice to see few new faces.

Clonmore travelled up to Belleek as their previous fixture was reversed. In the earlier match Belleek ran out comfortable winners. On a heavy pitch it was Clonmore who got early possession up to the full forward line, John Grimley gave a lovely weighted pass into the square where Brendan Donaghy was obstructed inside the large rectangle and awarded a penalty. The ref did well to see it and make the call. John Grimley slotted it home to give us a good start. Belleek hit a few wides and then the post but Stephen Donaghy cleared the danger. Clonmore pointed on eight minutes and Belleek replied one minute later with a fine point from the side line. Brendan Donaghy fielded some fine catches in the middle of the park. John Dynes had a good half at corner back. Clonmore played some great passing football but too often the passes went astray and the link to the forwards broke down. Though there was a chance of another goal but the pulled on shot went wide. Raymond McBennett continued to play well at half back. Belleek hit two points in succession around the 20 minute mark. Clonmore converted a free to finish the half 1-3 to 0-3.

Clonmore continued to give away possession around the middle third of the field, Belleek converted a free and hit several wides. Joe Donaghy was immense at full back through the whole game. Neil McCann was substituted by Paul Hamill, Paul made some good runs off the ball into the danger area and got into the game straight away. Again John Grimley put in a finely judged point and Clonmore's full forward watched it all the way and punched it to the goal. James Grimley had an uncharacteristically quiet game but got a late point for his perseverance. Belleek worked the ball at pace up the field and their goal was well deserved. John Grimley closed the game with a point. Full time score 2-5 to 1-6. Friday 7th August Clonmore v Collegeland.

Robert Emmett GAC - Robert Emmet 2009 reports

Clonmore played Silverbridge in the first round of the intermediate championship on Friday 24th. The bridge would be one of the largest clubs in the county and as a second division team would on paper have been favourites. After earlier heavy rain the officials tried to make the best of things by brushing the water out of the goal mouth. Clonmore made a few changes to usual team. Brendan Donaghy moved to full forward, surely it was hoped he would continue to be the scoring threat he was in Clonmore's last match. Clonmore played some great football with good passing play. Silverbridge converted an early free, in fact the majority of their scores came from frees. James Grimley opened the account on ten minutes. Unfortunately the quality of ball into Brendan wasn't as good as it could have been. Though double tagged for most of the match too many passes were out to the corners, when balls did come to Brendan he was winning them. Clonmore continued to move the ball well out of defence, though the deep play was probably a factor in the quality of ball to the full forward line. John Dynes and Raymond Convie and Shane Donnelly played allot of good football around the centre. Clonmore won their fair share of frees too and converted those in scoring range. Silverbridge fielded and hit the deck running and this opened the Clonmore defence, Joe Donaghy made up some ground and got a block in on a goal shot. Stephen Grimley gathered the ball off the line under pressure from the on rushing forwards, as he got to his feet to the surprise off all, the ball slipped from his grasp and into the goal. The fact that there was two inches of water in the goal mouth may have had a bearing on this but never the less Clonmore picked them selves up and built well from the back. Brendan Donaghy broke a ball down to John Grimley who pointed. The half time score was 1-7 to 0-8

Clonmore were still very much in the game. Joe Donaghy blocked a shot and James Mullen cleared the line, Joe Donaghy tackled well through the whole game. Marty Convie was another fella who continually looked for possession and made good use of any ball which he won. Shane Donnelly had a great game with some fantastic tackling turning over possession on several occasions. John Grimley made a good run down the centre of the pitch and was upended on the 21 metre line when he looked on track for a goal. Stephen Grimley made a good stop. Tony McGeown got on the score sheet with a well taken point. James Grimley took his scores well and won a few frees. Both teams picked off scores from play and free, there were some fine long range points from both teams. None of Clonmore's players shied away from taking their chances unfortunately there were a couple of wides. Ruairi Cunningham, Raymond McBennett and Stephen Donaghy were prominent players setting up many attacks and defending. With the last kick of the game Clonmore had a 21m free, the lobbed ball was won by a Clonmore man but the shot was blocked. The final score was 1-13 to 0-13. Photos online. Next match v Belleek Sunday 2nd.

We travelled to Keady on Friday night. Keady were always likely to be the winners as for one they are a very good team but also as Clonmore were without three of the first team, Brendan Donaghy (county duty), Ruairi Cunningham and Daniel Mullen Mullen both injured. There were some good play from Clonmore but overall Keady were too strong and took their scores with ease. There were some good scores from Clonmore with the pick of them being James Grimley's from the sideline 40m out. Final score Keady 1-12 Clonmore 0-6.

After Saturdays defeat the only consolation was the return of one of Armagh's star players to our team. It is a loss from the team that all would have gladly borne for the next few months but it was not to be. Once again Brendan put in a mighty performance, just as he does regularly in the green and gold. In a change to his usual role he lined out at full forward. Shane Donnelly and James Fox partnered at midfield and distributed a fair amount of possession. Raymie McBennett moved out to the half back line, and adapted well to this role being involved in lots of play from broken ball. John Dynes and Joe Donaghy did well on the full back line with tight marking and tough tackling. Stephen Donaghy was as often going forward as tracking back and fielded a couple of good balls. It was no surprise that Clonmore played route one football and upfront James Grimley and Brendan Donaghy performed well. Brendan when either running out onto the ball or fielding won every ball, he also took some fine scores with both feet. St. Peters though are not where they are at in the table without being a good team and they matched Clonmore all over the field. St Peters looked dangerous in front of the goals and their persistence paid off with a goal. James Grimley came out to the half forwards and his presence added to the attack from midfield. A high ball was palmed in for a goal by Brendan Donaghy. Another move saw him win the ball along the sideline and put it across the face of goal in front of an inrushing Shane Donnelly who netted it. Clonmore went into the final five minutes four points in the lead. A little inexperience allowed the Peters back into it with a goal and a late point to draw it. Clonmore had a fair shout for a 45m and certain penalty not given. Final score Clonmore 2-10 v Keady 2-10.
