Home GAC Robert Emmet 2006 Robert Emmet 2006 AGM

The most successful chapter in Clonmore's footballing history came to a close on Saturday 2nd December when players and members gathered in the Eagle bar in Charlemont to thank outgoing manager Joe Mallon for his contribution over the past four years. Joe has been fortunate to come along as the present group of players came of age, old age in some cases. As have the players been fortunate to play under the direction of Joe. All at the club truly wish him all the best with his future roles and it looks as if he won't be moving too far away. As one manager departs we are lucky to have secured the services of Eunan McGinn. Having met with the players a date for the first training session has been fixed for Feburary 4th.

It may seem to the casual observer that footballing matters are over for the season, but off the pitch there are lots going on. The AGM was held on Monday 4th, those present elected several new officers and new committee. It was good to see some of the present players taking up positions in the committee. Outgoing chairman James McBennett spoke of the annual cost of running a small club of 120 members, around £20k! And thanked everyone who organised and attended events throughout the year. Joe Mallon's time at Clonmore was reflected on as a time of improvement within the club, at whose request saw investment in lights for the new field and having a physio. James saw these as being pivotal in the success which followed. The increased use of the hall in the community and the use of technology within the club were highlighted as positive. The hard work of the current committee and officers was acknowledged, with special mention to physio Marcella Molloy. As James steps down he told of the honour in which he held being chairman. John and Kieran Donaghy's generosity in providing access for future development of facilities was noted, work to a new training pitch will be started shortly. Plans are afoot for new facilites to complete the work of the new pitch. In closing, Mickey Tierney was remembered as a stalwart of Clonmore Robert Emmetts, whose undying passion was for all things football.

Current secretary Kevin Crossey summed up the year's events with a look back at reaching the playoff in the sevens. He also thanked Joe and the mentors of the underage including the U21's. The renewal of a B team was seen as positive. The passing of Mickey Tierney and Bridget McAlinden was reflected upon. The monthly quiz was held up as a well run money raiser and everyone was encouraged to lend a hand in events. Again John Donaghy's generosity was noted. Club referee Malachy McNicholl's services were commended, as was the work of the field committee. Kevin attributed success in 2006 to the background activities of, amongst others, Marcella Molloy and Ethna Grimley. Congratulations to Ethna and her new baby.

DVD's photos and tshirts are still available! Surely if you ordered one at the time you will want to collect it.

Mel Mullen summed up the underage activities of St. John's.

U8 and U10 league programme were played as inclusive matches and not for points. This is in keeping with current underage coaching policy.

U12 did well for championship, but then saw a fall off of numbers.

U14 had a slow start to the league and beat Éire Óg to win the shield.

U16 finished well despite a slow start.

Minors finished in the top half of the league

U21's were ongoing.

The AGM saw a poor turnout from Clonmore. With respect to the amount of time needed for each team more commitment is needed from within the club. The need for at least two  referees to share the workload was highlighted. A meeting is scheduled for Monday 18th in Annaghmore at 7.30, there must be representation from the club if the underage football is to continue.
