Clonmore returned to league action on Sunday after a short break and travelled Craigavon to take on Eire Og.
The home side were first to register, with a point from play, however Clonmore were unlucky not to bag a three pointer early on as 2 close range shots on goal from Stephen Donaghy and another from Raymond Convie were somehow all kept out. Clonmore managed to get off the mark with a fisted point from Brendan Donaghy. A goal eventually came, from James Grimley with credit to Tony McGeown for some intelligent movement. Eire Óg replied with 3 unanswered points to level scores. Chris Convie was as always fighting for every break ball and fed James Fox for a long range point. Eire Óg converted a free to stay level but Clonmore finished the half strongest with points from Paul McNamee and Stephen Donaghy and were unlucky not to have a second goal from Grimley when a punched ball goalwards was saved. Clonmore started the second half in similar fashion and hit 3 points from play from Tony McGeown, James Grimley and Paul McNamee. The hosts then staged a revival and after 2 points were gifted a goal which looked certain to go wide but ended in the Clonmore net to bring the sides level yet again. The introduction of Aidan Daly seemed to turn the game, as from then on he seemed to get involved in a lot of the play. James Grimley and Ciaran Beagan added points for the Emmets before Daly was on hand to punch to the net. Brendy Donaghy converted a free from long range and Paul McNamee did likewise immediately after. Raymond McBennett looked to be goal bound but was upended outside the square, Dominic McGeown came up field and added a point to round up the scores.
Final score Éire Óg 1.07, Cluain Mór 2.12
No game this weekend due to barbque on Friday and the Ulster Final on Sunday, best of luck to Armagh as they go for 3 in a row.
Don’t forget the Big Friday Barbeque on 7th July. Promises to be a great nights entertainment, with music by ‘Completely Hooked’ and there will be a special admission price for families. This will be the last chance to see all of the 4 Cups won by Clonmore last season.
