Clonmore played host to Derrynnose on Sunday 13th.
Over the past couple of years encounters have been close contests but today was not to be one of these days with an under par Derrynoose failing to show their best. James Fox won a free from the first kick out ending up with a Brendan Donaghy point. He converted a Chris Convie free one minute later. Raymond Convie stepped in to full back, in place of an injured Joe Donaghy, and marshaled the large square well. A Ruairí Cunningham ball found Aidan Daly but the ball was deemed square. Good pressure from Cunningham and the Thomas Donaghy forced Derrynoose wide. Several players combined well to finish with two James Grimley points in two minutes. Derrynoose converted soon after for their first. Hard graft by Stephen Donaghy and Ciaran Beagan won frees to see Clonmore hit a wide, and a Donaghy point. Raymond McBennett sent in a long ball which full forward Grimley punched to the net. Aidan Daly then set him up for another point. Brendan Donaghy was on hand in defense to good effect. Derrynoose's second score was from a converted free. Jack Smith assisted Aidan Daly for a point. Smith was first to a broken ball and laid off to Chris Convie bearing in on goal, despite loosing his footing, his pass to Grimley saw him net a second goal. Ciaran Beagan moments later had a goal shot saved. A Stephen Donaghy free was kept in play by Smith and Chris Convie took his point well. Derrynoose got a late point to leave it 2-8 to 0-3.
Derrynoose were now playing with the strong breeze but their first shot was wide. Tony McGeown helped Beano with the first point of the half. Aidan Daly and Brendan Donaghy both scoring minutes later. Derrynoose got one more and two D McGeown blocks returned a 45 instead of a point. Grimley pointed and Derrynoose replied straight away. Joe Prunty came in for Smith and Brian Donaghy for Cunningham. Mc Bennett pointed and Beano had a shot come off the post. Grimley converted a Stephen Donaghy free. Joe McNamee came on for Daly. Clonmore's keeper was alert to a loose ball forcing a wide, before Derrynoose pointed. Gerard Molloy came in for Thomas Donaghy. A James Fox pass to Joe McNamee ended with a well taken point. D McGeown was on hand to block again. Tony McGeown was substituted for Cathal Cullen. Chris Convie's effort right to the end was rewarded with a free likewise for Grimley who converted. Brendan and Stephen Donaghy and indeed the whole team kept going strongly till the end.
