On Friday night last, The Emmets hosted Saint Pauls, another big game for Clonmore as the Lurgan side have only recently dropped down from Division 2 football.

The visitors were first off the mark with a point from play after possession was surrendered a number of times. John Grimley was well alert in goals to pull off 2 good saves, his brother James registered Clonmores first score after seven minutes. St Pauls converted 2 more frees before Grimley again stepped up to convert a free. St.Pauls added a point from play. Good play from Tony McGeown, James Fox and Chris Convie drove the Clonmore attack forward, and were duly rewarded with 2 points from Brendan Donaghy and another from Jack Smyth. In injury time Chris Convie was fouled and awarded a penalty, the kick from James Grimley was well saved although the keeper could do nothing about the rebound which Jack Smyth hammered into the net. Half time Score Cluain Mór 1.05, Naomh Pól 0.4

Clonmore started the second half with a point again from Smyth, however the Lurgan men rallied and staged a comeback hitting 4 points in a row closing the deficit to a single point and attacking the Clonmore defences with some good open football. Jack Smyth proving his scoring ability hit another point before Paul McNamee hit the score of the evening when a high ball in deceived the Pauls keeper and dropped to the back of the net. From there on the St Pauls heads dropped, both sides added 2 points each the visitors converting 2 frees, James Grimley and a long range effort from Brendan Donaghy for Clonmore although Smyth will feel hard done by when a shot was judged to be narrowly wide by the referee after some lengthy consultation with both umpires. Final score Cluain Mór 2.09, Naomh Pól 0.11

Two more valuable points for the Emmets as the league approaches the half way stage. Some tough games ahead and many are away from home, one of which will be Clonmores visit to Middletown on Sunday come along and give your support.
