After an extended break from competitive action Clonmore returned to league duties on Sunday to face neighbours and league contenders Annaghmore at Robert Emmet Park.
Before the game a minutes silence was observed for Mickey Tierney who died recently. Although only at the half way stage in the league, this top of the table clash, was a game which would put the victors in a good position for outright league honours. Clonmore will know, and it was indeed acknowledged by the majority of onlookers that this was a game they really should have taken. However, for a number of reasons the visiting Pearses came away with a 1 point win to take the spoils and 2 valuable points. Perhaps experience in Division 3 stood to Annaghmore and they used it to full advantage. In possession terms Clonmore had more than their fair share but too many times needlessly surrendered that possession by poor passing or shots at goal dropping short. Annaghmore were more efficient in their use of the ball, holding their nerve and clinically finishing off shots at target while Clonmore squandered umpteen chances to pick off points at crucial stages of the game. The Emmets had a golden opportunity to level the game with a goal chance 5 minutes from the end but James Grimley saw his shot denied by the slightest of touches from the Annaghmore keeper. Grimley did however finish the game as top scorer with 8 points. Points apiece were also added from Tony McGeown, Paul McNamee, Aidan Daly and Jack Smyth. Final score Cluáin Mór Roibeard Eiméid 0.12, Eanach Mór Na Piarsigh 0.13
Despite losing during the day the community came together on Sunday evening for an evening of music and craic in the hall. The evening was in aid of ‘The Niamh Louise Foundation’ which is working to help promote awareness of the issue of suicide in Armagh and Tyrone. Two Clonmore players will be part of a 60 strong sponsored skydive, Brendan Donaghy and James Grimley will be on the road in the near future seeking sponsorship.
