Clonmore contested 2 games at the weekend with a mixed bag of results.

On Friday evening in torrential rain An Port Mór were visitors to Clonmore, in a rematch of last years Junior Final won by Clonmore. Goals conceded told the tale of this game, for while The Emmets were able to hold The O’Neills to a single point in the first half and just four in the second, it was two goals in each half which won the game. Clonmore struggled to settle in the poor conditions and were caught flat footed several times while a more astute Port Mór outfit always seemed to want the win much more. Clonmore did plug away at the points however and a great run by Brendan Donaghy midway through the second half set up James Grimley to fire home a great goal to bring the sides level. From the kickout Port Mór moved the ball quickly down the field, caught out the Emmets defence and immediately cancelled out the goal. The O’Neills, who have again qualified for this years Junior Final, weren’t finished and added a point soon after. Clonmore replied with a point but another goal late in injury time sealed the win for the visitors.
Final score Cluain Mór 1.09, An Port Mór 4.05

On Sunday The Emmets travelled to Lissummon for a must win game if they are to realise their league ambitions. Both teams started poorly with numerous wides from both sets of players. Ten minutes in Clonmore were awarded a penalty, taken by Brendan Donaghy but very well saved by the keeper. That seemed to kick start the game and the home side scored a point, replied to immediately with a long range effort from James Fox. The Emmets playing with a strong breeze added another from Tony McGeown set up by Raymond McBennett and a free converted by Brendy Donaghy. Lissummon held possession well before executing a well taken punched goal. Clonmore got into their stride and hit 6 unanswered points, 1 from Ciaran Beagan, 2 from James Grimley and 3 converted frees by Brendan Donaghy.
The home team added a point just before the break.
Half time; Lissummon 1.02, Clonmore 0.09

Jack Smyth opened the scoring for the second half with a point, both sides traded scores, captain Stephen Donaghy getting on the score sheet while brother Brendan added 2 more from frees. Lissummon showed great resolve however and four points in a row some great long range scores brought them to within 2 of Clonmore when John Grimley made a match winning save to deny them the lead. From that Clonmore went on to finish strongly with 5 unanswered points, more importantly from 4 different scorers – Brendan Donaghy, Chris Convie, Raymie McBennett and James Grimley.
Final score; Lios Iomana Éireann Féin 1.08, Cluáin Mór Roibeard Eiméid 0.18.
A much better team performance from the lads, Clonmore can also take heart in that the finally tally of 18 points was contributed to from a total of 9 different players, although 8 of these came from man of the match Brendan Donaghy who put in a sterling performance.
Clonmore are to host Crossmaglen II as visitors this Sunday throw in TBC.

Congratulations to Mr and Mrs Raymond and Cheryl Convie who tied the knot last week. The players and Club wish the happy couple all the best for the future.
