Home GAC Robert Emmet 2006 060605re

On Friday night last, Clonmore played host to last seasons intermediate champions, Granemore, a tough test for the Emmets.

Although Clonmore opened the scoring, it was the visitors who got off to the best start with a goal on 3 minutes adding a point immediately after. Chris Convie replied but Granemore added 2 more points stretching the gap to 4. Stephen Donaghy used skill and strength to skip through numerous tackles before giving a perfect pass to Raymond Convie who took the safe option of a point a minute later brother Chris made no mistake to level the scores with a well struck goal after good work from Paul McNamee and Ruairi Cunningham. Both sides traded points for the remainder of the half, Clonmores coming from Raymond Convie and 2 from James Grimley to leave half time score; Clonmore 1.6, Granemore 1.7

Granemore opened the second half in determined fashion hitting 3 points in as many minutes. Then Clonmore turned the game, Raymond McBennett doing the spade work for Stephen Donaghy to hit the net, 2 minutes later a foul on James Grimley resulted in a penalty duly converted by Grimley himself and a minute later added another point to his tally. At the other end it was John Grimley to the fore to stop a certain Granemore goal with an excellent save. Ruairi Cunningham set up Jack Smyth for a point, while Brendan Donaghy added another to stretch Clonmores lead to 5 points.
The visitors hadn’t finished and pulled back 2 points and were through on goal only for a calm, well timed tackle from Joe Donaghy to dispossess. Chris Convie pointed for Clonmore and while Granemore added 2 late points, it was Clonmore captain Stephen Donaghy who had the last say with a point from play.

Full time score Roibeard Eiméid Cluain Mór 3.11, Naomh Mhuire An Grainseach Mhór 1.14
