Home GAC Robert Emmet 2006 6th March 2006

Another eventful week within Clonmore GFC. On Thursday night manager Joe Mallon was awarded runner up in the Coach of the Year awards in Belfast City Hall. In a field of competition from a huge range of sports and many experienced coaches and managers this was an excellent result for Joe and due recognition of his achievements with Clonmore in 2005. Well done Joe and congratulations!

Sunday saw a return to football at Robert Emmet Park as Clonmore hosted Tyrone visitors Rock. For the first time in a number of years Clonmore fielded a reserve team, giving a platform for players aspiring to gain their place on the senior team. The first game was player in near perfect conditions, a bit of winter sunshine and a pitch in excellent condition. Clonmore led at the break but goals in the second half from a number of Rock old hands gave the visitors victory. Defeated maybe but not a bad performance given it was first time playing as a unit and also that a number of players have neither trained nor played for a while.

Just as the senior game was to start the weather changed miserably with a heavy hail shower. This made conditions difficult on both the feet and hands and didn’t help the quality of football. Some great scores were contributed from James Grimley while Joe Donaghy and Paul McNamee turned in good performances but Rock eventually ran out winners in what was a good work out for the team. Many thanks to The Rock for making the journey to Clonmore and providing two good sporting games.

This Sunday Clonmore travel to neighbours Derrytresk for a reserve and senior game. All players are asked to be in Derrytresk for 11.45 am

Training continues Tuesdays and Fridays 7.30 and a number of games have been arranged in the coming Sundays. All players are asked to attend training including those wishing to be selected for reserve games.

On Friday 17th of March there will be a St. Patricks night disco & hooley in Clonmore Hall, admission is £5. Tickets are on sale from Roisin Gormley, Clonmore Villas and proceeds are in aid of Meningitis Research. Everyone welcome.
