Home GAC Robert Emmet 2007 29th April 2007

Clonmore travelled down to Clady on Sunday for the third match with two strikes in their league so far.

The team were buoyed by the return of Brendy and James, but sadly no Ciaran Beagan for a while. Although the sun was out there was a fair breeze blowing up the field, in Clonmore's favour for the first half. Tony McGeown won a free from the off and it was converted by James Grimley. Both were involved again before Brendan Donaghy pointed. Paul McNamee's efforts won a hop ball which resulted in a Clonmore wide. Clady had a free which went wide. Gary Nugent, Raymie McBennett D McGeown and Brendy got the ball up the field to Stephen whose shot looked on target but judged otherwise by the ref, what a difference it might have been on another day. Brian and Joe Donaghy both shored up defence with the keeper doing well to clear the ball out to Paul and Gary winning a free. The ball was being well worked up the field each time through a series of tight hand passes, with the above players involved and also John Dynes and James Fox. Clady got their first point after ten minutes. Brendy and James Grimley played the ball through to Paul whose free was expertly dispatched by Grimley. A Clady free led to their second score. Ruarí Cunningham, Raymie and Tony were also in the thick of the action and another free was converted by James. D, Brian and Joe and James Fox again doing well in the backs and a hop ball set Jack Smith up for a point, quarter way through the game. With Clonmore picking up a fair amount of the loose ball, and Brendan again helping control things, the ball was worked up the park via Stephen and Raymie before Brendan took a long range shot which was well stopped by the keeper. Just as Clonmore were settling into things Clady came quickly down the field with Clonmore on the back foot the full forward collected a long ball and on the turn blasted home from close range, a well worked move that left the keeper no chance. A free for the home team was put wide and Clonmore came away again through the efforts of John Dynes, Raymie, Tony, James Fox and Brendy. James Grimley won a hop ball and Brendy pointed from it. With Clady now taking the ball down the field Brendy stayed with his man all the way and blocked the pass, the resulting possession was converted by James Fox. Ruarí was back defending along with Joe and a Clady wide was followed by a point with three minutes left. From John Dynes to Brendy a long ball was sent up to Tony and the pass out to Ruarí saw him shoot from 50m out along the sideline for a good point. After a good catch from the kick out by Brendan Clady won a free and the long ball dangerously into the square was just that a square ball. Grimley won a free before a rare Clonmore wide. One minute into injury time saw a long range point by Brendy. Brian, Ruarí and Brendy again worked the ball out to Stephen whose long run was stopped unfairly; again James Grimley put it over the bar.  Half time 0-10 to 1-4.

Clady started well with a point with less than a minute gone. A string of frees for Clonmore failed to return a score, with Clady getting a wide. Brendy and D in defence got the ball to Dynes and Raymie whose free was converted by Brendy on thirty seven minutes. This combination was repeated two minutes later after a good run by Raymie. Clady were slowed down by another good block from Brendy but they converted their next two frees   separated by a wide. Gerard Molloy came in for John Dynes. Clady were getting to grips with Clonmore and another wide was followed by two points. Joe and James partnered the ball out of defence, before Clonmore's first wide of the half. D, Ruarí and Brendy combined strongly but the ball went wide. Gerard set Tony up for a point and Jack made way for Aidan Daly. Joe was fouled as he came away with the ball as was Paul. A Clady attack was tempered by Stephen and they only managed a wide. A long pass from Paul found Raymie and he took his point well. A hop ball ended with a Clady point, a free was converted with one minute of ordinary time. A draw looked likely as Brendy won a free then converted Stephen's. A final play from Raymie put Tony through for a winning point.

Last Wednesday saw the B team managed from the side line by Dominic Molloy take on Tir Na nÓg in Portadown. Some good play from Aidan Daly, D, Raymie, Brian Donaghy, Shane McGeown and Paul Hamill among others saw the home team get a five point victory. The idea of playing in the B league is primarily to let first team subs get some match practice. At the same time as having a bit of craic there is a desire in the squad to do well. The introduction of veteran Paul Grimley in the second half was good to see. B team v Maghery postponed.

The plans for the new hall are still on display in the hall, the CRG would still like any suggestions / comments as things can still be changed at this stage. Naomh Eoin minor training is over due to the schedule of other teams, U16 continues in Collegeland on Sunday morning, nad U14 is Tuesday and Saturday. Clonmore senior training is now Tuesday and Friday.
