A busy weekend started with the refixed league match v Cross II last Friday night.

After some under par performances Clonmore took to the field knowing they were a better than those score lines made out. From the off they looked to be regaining some form. Joe Donaghy having had a couple of matches under his belt made some good tackles early on. Rangers hit two wides before a point on seven minutes. There was some good tackling form Ciaran Beagan, Gary Nugent and Tony McGeown. After a Clonmore wide John Grimley won a free and it was converted on eight minutes. Stephen Donaghy shipped a heavy tackle but managed to get the ball away. Ruarí Cunningham back in defence was keeping up with his man, another three wides followed for Clonmore. Making the chances were Tony McGeown, Ruarí Cunningham, Stephen Donaghy and playing well in both defence and attack was Brian Donaghy. Some excellent flowing passing from Clonmore saw them take too much out of it on a couple of occasions and get closed down in front of goals. D McGeown won a free and James Fox moved it up the field and although subject to some afters got up and played on. Clonmore kept their heads and kept playing football with James Grimley winning a free. John Dynes, Ciaran Beagan, Stephen Donaghy, D McGeown, and James Fox, all with some good fielding, ensured possession. Clonmore hit four wides although the passing was up to that was spot on. Joe Donaghy pulled off a good block before Cross converted a free. Stephen Grimley came away with a high ball and Tony McGeown, Paul McNamee and Stephen Donaghy moved the ball to James Fox who won a free which was converted.

Brian Donaghy made way for Raymond Convie, who has been absent due to other commitments. John Dynes started where he left off with a block although a wide followed. D McGeown got the ball to Raymond Convie then Paul McNamee to Stephen Donaghy, running with him in front of goal, hit the back of the net after 33 minutes. A wide followed before Cross were reduced to 14 men. Wides were exchanged as Ciaran Beagan and James Fox continued to win possession around the centre. Tony was on hand to clear danger in front of goal. Raymie McBennett got his reward for lots of hard work on thirteen minutes with a point. Rangers got a wide and a point. Good pressure from Ciaran Beagan with John Grimley getting the ball to James Grimley whose free was converted. Gary Nugent covering lots of ground won a free, Rangers converted one with seven minutes to go. Then Tony McGeown set John Grimley up for a well taken point one minute later. John Grimley took a heavy tackle but was soon involved in play again with John Dynes, Ruarí Cunningham, and Ciaran Beagan. James Grimley took a shot from far out which hit the cross bar. Rangers replied with a point. James Fox continued to play well in the middle of the park with good kick outs from Stephen Grimley. Ruarí Cunningham won a free and from 50m out James Grimley hit the post. Stephen Donaghy was first to the rebound and was fouled for a penalty. John Grimley put it away cleanly. Clonmore almost had another goal with Stephen Donaghy’s attempt hitting the post and James Grimley pulling on the loose ball.

Sunday was away to Lissummon, the heavy showers held off for the match. With the strong breeze Lissummon hit an early wide before Clonmore missed a handy free. Brian Donaghy blocked and Tony McGeown intercepted to set up a Clonmore attack. Again Clonmore missed an easy free. John Dynes put in a long ball to Raymie McBennett and James Grimley pointed on seven minutes. James Fox continued to field well around the centre. Lissummon hit two wides before Stephen caught a high ball and won a free. D McGeown and Gary Nugent were making enterprising runs from the back line. James Grimley won a free and it was converted. Clonmore’s short passing game was getting them up the field but a crowded forward line saw the ball being turned over. Maybe it was the wet conditions underfoot or a changeable breeze but another straight forward free was spurned. This was repeated a couple of minutes later. Lissummon hit four points in eight minutes before James Grimley made it 4 -3.

Now playing against the breeze they pointed on 31 minutes. Ruarí Cunningham continued to tackle well and Brian Donaghy, Paul McNamee and James Grimley set Raymie McBennett up for a well taken goal one minute later. Lissummon converted a free before three wides. John Dynes and Paul McNamee both won frees. Gerard Molloy came in for Brian Donaghy and got into the play straight away. Stephen Donaghy pointed on 40 minutes the Lissummon on 41. John Dynes continued to play well in defence. A high ball into a crowded Clonmore square was cleared, although the home side converted a free on 45 minutes. Clonmore hit another couple of wides before Lissummon scored twice in the final 10 minutes. Raymie McBennett did have a shot saved though.

A variety sale and auction was held on Saturday 23rd at the hall. Among the many bargains to be had on the day were tools, machinery, furniture, toys, bikes, flowers, and household goods. Most of the items sold on the day, as the crowd wasn't overly big and there were many items there were lots of bargains. So in fact everyone left happy. Food was supplied all day long and there was some impromptu entertainment on the piano. Well done to those involved in the organisation and running of the event in particular the auctioneer Paul Grimley. It was a good day for the community too, as days spent working together are not as frequent as they once were.

This weekend’s matches are both at home as follows: Friday 8pm An Port Mór, Middletown Sunday 12pm. Committee meeting Monday 9pm sharp.
