Clonmore hosted An Port Mór as the first of their home games.
The black and amber got two early points with Clonmore converting a free. Good defence from D McGeown and Stephen Donaghy winning a breaking ball resulted in a Raymie McBennett point on eight minutes. Good defending from Joe Donaghy and Gary Nugent saw more wides from An Port Mór. James Fox was distributing good ball from the middle, John Grimley gave the ball to Tony McGeown who ran from the middle of the park to put the ball in the back of the net on 16 minutes. A point was the reply three minutes later then followed by a short ball across the goal which was punched to the Clonmore net. John Dynes and John Grimley combined with a one two for a point. Paul McNamee and Jack Smith around the middle were combining well with some of the younger players. An Port Mór finished the half strongly with four points, although D McGeown was marshalling the full back line well.
Paul McNamee won an early free which was converted. Stephen Grimley was keeping order at the back, with Brian Donaghy making inroads into the opponents half. The visitors managed two more points before being reduced to 14 men as Tony McGeown won and converted a free. Paul Hamill came in for Brian Donaghy and got on the ball right away. The teams exchanged points before a hopeful ball was again punched into the Clonmore net. Good pressure from D McGeown and Gary Nugent forced several wides. Again points were exchanged and Cathal Cullen came in for Raymie McBennett, he won a free which was converted and Stephen made a good save to leave the score 2-11 to 1-8.
The second game was a refixed match against Eoghan Rua Coillidh Chanannain. It ended up a fairly one sided affair but Clonmore did most things right and as a team played very well. Raymie McBennett opened the scores with a conversion before James Grimley hit the net. John Grimley took several good scores before being subbed late on in the half for Raymond Convie. Tony McGeown, Stephen Donaghy, Ciaran Beagan and Jack Smith were playing some good flowing football around the centre of the park. Raymie McBennett looked to be in for a goal before being closed down after a series of good passes. Owen Roes took advantage of a mistake in the back line at the end of the half by blasting the ball home, although Stephen Grimley did get fingertips to it.
Pressure form Gary Nugent forced an early wide, Clonmore were continuing to win most of the possession around the middle and when they didn’t have the ball they all turned defender. Jack Smith sailed over a fine point, and James Grimley had a low shot go just wide. Good passing let Raymie in for a point. Both side hit wides and Stephen Grimley was well out to claim the ball helped by Joe Donaghy. Brian Donaghy continued to build from the back with Raymond Convie involved in much of the play. Gerard Molloy came in for Jack Smith. James Grimley scored a few good points, with James Fox putting in good ball. Ciaran Beagan was just as active in defense as in attack. Paul Hamill came in for Paul McNamee who had another good game winning plenty of 50/50 balls upfront. Stephen Donaghy made way for Thomas Donaghy. John Dynes continued to work hard over the field and was involved in lots of the play. Gerard Molloy was another of the young players who is fitting in well with the team. Joe Donaghy and Gary Nugent tackled strongly right to the final whistle, and D McGeown never put a foot wrong through out. Final score 1-17 1-8.
Well done to Naomh Eoin minors on their win last Monday with five players from Clonmore on the team it looks good for the future.
