As Clonmore continue to keep their heads above the water they played Clady, fresh from their Championship encounter with Mullabrack.
Stephen Donaghy paying in the forwards won a free which was converted and Clady had the same return two minutes later. Good play from Gary Nugent, Raymond Convie and Ciaran Beagan finished with a Ruarí Cunningham point on five minutes. Raymond McBennett, James Fox were moving well up front .Good defending from Brian and Brendan Donaghy contributed to three Clady wides before they got their second point on ten minutes. Stephen Donaghy and Ciaran Beagan held possession and Raymond Convie’s long range shot was stopped. Having continued after the ball, the rebound fell kindly and he volleyed to the back of the net. Again pressure from Joe Donaghy forced a wide. Clonmore hit a wide before Clady made good a free. Clonmore had a couple of long range shots go wide before a long run from Raymond Convie ended with a point with ten minutes to go. Raymond McBennett played a good ball in to Ciaran Beagan and he laid it off to Ruarí Cunningham in the corner, Clonmore now were in front of goal with space and a man over but an untidy pass ended with a loose ball. Raymond McBennett was first to the ball and pointed. Clady returned two points. Brendan Donaghy and Brian Donaghy gothe ball to Ciaran Beagan who pointed. Gary Nugent won a free then Brendan Donaghy was fouled, Ruarí Cunningham got the ball in the corner and from a narrow angle scored a good point. Tony McGeown was involved in a long passage of play which saw a long range attempt go wide. Stephen Grimley was well out to stop a dangerous long ball John Dynes was getting to grips with the half back position, Clady pointed in injury time to leave it 1-6 , 0-6.
Clonmore hit three wides with one from long range before Raymond McBennett pointed. Clady converted three frees in ten minutes, with Clonmore exerting good pressure all the time. Tony McGeown got a 45m kick which ended with a wide. D McGeown carried the ball down the field and Brendan Donaghy finished with a score on fourteen minutes. Brendan Donaghy got return passes from Ruarí Cunningham and Raymond Convie before he pointed again one minute later. Raymond Convie put the ball over the bar a minute after. Stephen Donaghy won a free which was converted by Paul McNamee. A heavy shower may have had something to do with both sides hitting wides with no score for ten minutes. Tony McGeown scored twice in the last three minutes and Paul McNamee hit a point. Clonmore played well over the entire sixty minutes with everyone putting in the effort till the final whistle. Clonmore 1-14 Clady 0-9.
Once again the pitch was well lined out and with all the heavy rain is still in excellent condition.
