Perhaps it's fair to say that this match could be summed by the difference in two teams as: one being faster, stronger, more hungry and playing well as a team.
The other a little off the pace, and not able to get the scores. This could sum up the difference between Clonmore's first and second half performances too. After two good wins in the first two matches of the season Keady were never going to gift us three out of three. The half time score of 1-6 to 0-2 doesn't tell the full story as Clonmore had a fair share of the possession but gave it away a few times. This was the difference as Keady were able to convert these mistakes into points and this ultimately this gave Clonmore twice the work. Clonmore failed to score from open play in the first half with James Grimley being fouled after getting into good scoring positions. Raymie McBennett came in for some harsh treatment in the first half, maybe a sign of the threat he can be when on the ball. Marty Convie had a good game around the middle with James Donaghy helping out too. As expected Brendan Donaghy's work rate is top class. No one played badly just at times tried to do too much under pressure. Keady too had a few frees and a penalty which looked a little far out, this was converted for a goal. Marty Convie continued to pick up on breaking ball around the middle of the pitch, Raymond Convie made good use of possession working the ball into the opponents half. James Fox did well too at centre half forward. John Grimley's distribution is second to none, and in general Clonmore's quick and accurate passing in the second half was very effective. Ruari Cunningham was alert to a Keady shot which rebounded off the post, things like this are as good as a point. Stephen Grimley made a great save from a Keady forward who ran through with only the keeper to beat. Brian Donaghy came in for John Dynes with 15 minutes to go. Daniel Mullen was on good form at half back. A huge positive that Clonmore can take from this match is the fact that they kept their heads up and turned the game round in their favour. With five minutes to go James Grimley won a kickout on the 40m line, his pass through to John Grimley at pace saw him raise the roof of the net from a good 20m out and from a narrow angle. Clonmore continued to move the ball well up the field using several players. One move ending with Tony McGeown hitting the ball low across the goal for a narrow wide. A tough game, but with a little patience Clonmore are capable of playing as well as any of the other teams in the third divsion. Well done to Naomh Eoin U21 who had a good win on Wednesday night last, they play Cross in Annaghmore this Wednesday.
