The senior men's first match of the 2009 season was away to Annaghmore on a fantastic Sunny St. Thomas Sunday.
There are new faces on the team and new faces along the fence, both good to see. There continues to be a strong family connection on the team with six sets of brothers. Clonmore had a good first half with six points to four the half time score. There were several useful balls put into Raymie McBennett in the corner from around the middle of the pitch and several points resulted. John Grimley had a good deal of possession and used the ball well. Brendan Donaghy and James Fox worked well in midfield.
In the second half Annaghmore played most of their ball in to the right corner forward. Daniel Mullen who was operating in this area stood out as one of Clonmore's best players continually forcing Annaghmore to make errors and also to win possession. In the half forward line his younger brother James had a positive influence on the game. Brothers James and John Grimley did most of Clonmore's scoring. Clonmore's second half goal came from a quick free on the 21m line by James Grimley across the pitch and infront of John Grimley who got away from his marker and ran from the 40m line to volley it past the keeper. Quick thinking and a sublime goal. Two superb late points from the same men from almost the same spot close to the endline kept Clonmore in the game in the closing minutes. Joe Donaghy marshelled the full back line well, adn Stephen Grimley had a good game. Annaghmore perhaps played most of the football in the second half more often than not able to get the ball up the field, with their men out in front. Due to Clonmore's determined pressure though they couldn't convert the majority of their possession, though they were never out of the game at any stage. In fairness the referee seemed to try and let the game flow. There was around five minutes of injury time mainly as a result of an accidental clash of heads between Ruari Cunningham and Brendan Donaghy. There was plenty of good play from the whole of the Clonmore team, and with a new manager in place to guide the team, this season leaves much to be optimistic about. Well done.

At u16,the local ladies visited St Enda's (Tullysaran & Grange) played at the Grange.
Fielding quite a lot of 14 year olds for this game, the team found it difficult to stay with the more experienced St Enda's outfit, but competed well showing great promise for the future and especially next year.
The Minors faced the same opposition at the same venue for their league opener last Thursday evening. With a strong wind blowing with the clonmore ladies in the first half, they raced into a fairly healthy lead. The second half was a completely different affair and Clonmore were pinned back for most of the half. Only for some fine defending by Shauna Fanthorpe, Maura Cunningham and goal keeper Hannah McGilly, the team held on to win by 4 points in what was a very exciting finish. Well done to all the team for their determination to come away with a win against a very strong St Endas outfit. It was very encouraging to have most of the panel in both age groups attending both matches for support.
Next two games are U16 v Pearse og, U18 v St Peter's. Both games are in Robert Emmet Park Cluain Mhor and further fixtures can be viewed via the Master Plan in the Hall or online. Coaching for all age groups is currently ongoing on Monday & Thursday Nights. Coaching for u 12s/U10s has begun as well and these details can be received from Mary O'Hagan or Kathleen Quigley. All new members at any age group are welcome.
The Management committee of the ladies are very proud that after its first year in existence, a committee proposal has been ratified that ladies Football is fully integrated into the Main Robert Emmet Club. The committee would like to thank Clonmore Robert Emmet's for their vision in implementing this plan and to good joined up working in the future. Current fundraising which is ongoing by the girls will be going to help in the building of the changing & meeting complex. The ladies are currently collecting loose Copper coins & 5pence pieces and donations of these can be given to James Mc Bennett or Mary O'Hagan. Many thanks goes to O2 recently for a £1000 donation towards purchasing valuable equipment for the girls. Photos on line
The Club is also pleased to announce that after one year, they have County representations at 2 grades. Well done to Rebecca McGeary & Eve Lavery for making the grade at U14,and to Brid O'Hagan for County Minors. A big congratulations to Cathy Convie who has been selected as Minor captain for this year. Cathy, whose uncle Gerard played for the Club for many years will no doubt prove to be a great leader on and off the field. Membership of the Club is now due at £5 per underage member and is required before 27th April.
