Clonmore opened their 2010 league campaign with a valueable draw against neighbours Collegelands. The team lined out without county star Brendan Donaghy who was out due to county duty.
Clonmore were also minus Ruiri Cuinningham who is injured and several experienced campaigners who have called it a day. Clonmore opened their scoring through frees from Cathal Cunningham but Collegelands quickly got back on terms through the Cullen brothers and by half time Collegelands led 5 to 3. Both teams missed having missed goal chances.
Collegelands extended their lead to 5 points before John Grimley fired in a goal to resurrect Clonmore. Dee McGeown back from his sabbatical in England help to steady the defence and with the team battling throughout were making it difficult for Collegelands. Clonmore fired in a second goal through Ray Mc Bennett putting Clonmore one up before Collegelands levelled. Clonmore were indeed happy to get the draw but Collegelands will look at this as a point dropped. Manager Paddy Girvan should be pleased with the team effort especially with the younger members who all battled well.
Final score Clonmore 2-06 Collegelands 0-12.
