Home GAC Robert Emmet 2010 Offical opening report

Clonmore’s new changing rooms and pitch was officially opened on Sunday 23rd May 2010 by An Uachtarán Chumann Lúthchleas Gael, Criostóir Ó Cuana.

Opening of th epitch

The day began with mass celebrated by Dean Colum Curry PP Dungannon, there was full participation by all sections of the club. Clonmore choir added to the occasion. We then paraded from the Chapel to the GAA grounds led by An Port Mór Independent Pipe band and youth players carrying the flags of the 32 counties followed by youth teams of Naomh Eoin and Naomh Labhaoise, senior players, committee members and other community organisations. Tea and refreshments were enjoyed on arrival at the clubrooms, very welcome on the hottest day of this year. The ladies game got under way featuring the minor teams of Clonmore and Ballyhegan.
The Armagh and Galway teams then arrived and it was remarkable to witness the star Tribesmen and Orchard men mingle with those gathered as they took in the occasion. They gratefully posed for pictures and chatted, managers and backroom staff also. The pitch was then blessed by Dean Curry assisted by Fr Michael O'Dwyer, a former Club Chaplain. They spoke again of the connection from the past, present and future. The new Clubrooms were opened by GAA President Christy Cooney who unveiled a special plaque to mark the occasion. Next to this was a framed letter from May McAleese Speeches followed, firstly from Club Chairman Dominic Molloy who thanked everyone concerned for the hard work put in over recent months and weeks. Invited local MLA Michelle Gildernew spoke on behalf of fellow MPs and MLA’s present. Christy Cooney gave his speech and praised all involved. Caroline McKee addressed the crowd in Gaeilge and Paul Duggan Chairman of the Armagh County Board then addressed the crowd.

The teams of Armagh And Galway then took to the field and after a brief warm up followed the band for the pre match parade and the National Anthem.
The match was a one sided affair with the selected Armagh team unable to handle a much better Galway outfit. Local players James Grimley and Daniel Mullen came on for Armagh and both did very well. We extend our many thanks to those who travelled to watch the game and to those who took part in any way in the events. A meal was provided for those involved in the new building and more people gathered in the hall to watch the championship match.

The Friday night previous, after a busy day of finishing off, saw the first event take place in the hall. A crowd of around 40 gathered for a quiz and to view the fantastic new facilities.

This week's match on Friday night is away to Forkhill and on Sunday away to Tullysaran.

The club development draw has been regrettably postponed to Sunday 5th Sept to take place after the Sports day. The club would like to thank everyone that has sold or bought tickets and ask them for their continued support. The new club rooms are excellent facilities but have come at a cost and in order to reduce the club debt our development draw needs to meet the target we set.
