6th April 2008

Due to a wet pitch, it was Béal Leice Naomh Lorcan O'Tuathail who made the journey down to Clonmore for a cold April day start to the league. Clonmore without Brendan Donaghy, on call for the county, lined out as follows: Eoin Cullen, Brian Donaghy, Joe Donaghy, D. McGeown, John Grimley, Tony McGeown, Marty Convie, James Fox, Stephen Donaghy, Raymond Convie, Paul McNamee, Ruairi Cunningham, Ciaran Beagan, James Grimley, Raymond McBennett.

Wth the wind favouring Clonmore in the first half all the training under new manager Sean Corr was about to be tested. A ball into James Grimley saw him win a penalty within a minute, which he dispatched to the back of the net. Belleek won a free but a poor pass was intercepted by James Fox and a long ball into the corner found Raymie McBennett who pointed. Each side had a free with Belleek returning a point on five minutes. A good series of passes the length of the field saw James Fox’s shot go narrowly wide. Stephen Donaghy won a free which was converted he was then back to tackle as Belleek hit a wide. James Grimley pointed after fielding a high ball played in by Ruairi Cunningham. Well done to Ruairi and John Grimley both on the panel of the Academy’s Hogan cup winning team. Belleek followed with a point. Raymond Convie was fouled and the free converted.  A heavy snow and hail shower made the going tough for a few minutes. There followed several frees for both sides with Tony McGeown seeing his shot go just outside the post. A Belleek free was punched over the bar. James Fox gathered a broken ball from the kickout and pointed from distance. Eoin Cullen came out to to clear his lines, Raymie McBennett hit a wide from a tight angle. Ciaran Beagan won a free which was converted.  Beleek had a free which was moved in and converted. Belleek fielded the kickout and a long ball over the top to the corner forward who goaled on 24 minutes. Several frees and wides followed for both teams with Tony McGeown and Stephen Donaghy blocking and tackling. Raymond Convie put James Grimley through infront of goal but lack of space saw the ball go for a 45. Paul McNamee hit a great score one minute into injury time. Halftime score Belleeks 1-5 Clonmore 1-6.

Beleek scored a point after one minute, with John Grimley replying on two minutes. Clonmore’s next score was in injury time. Eoin Cullen did well to block a shot and a rebound. Play was at times scrappy with several frees being moved in and scores coming from them. Another goal came from a ball over the top. Thomas Donaghy came on for Ciaran Beagan, Paul Hamill for Paul McNamee and John Dynes for Brian Donaghy. Belleek converted a penalty to a goal in injury time. Gerard Molloy came on for Stephen Donaghy. Despite flashes of good play this was not Clonmore at its best, it is early days and there is time to work at some easily fixed things in training. Challenge matches over the past few weeks have shown there is much more to this team. Final score Belleek 3-11 Clonmore 1-8
