A heavy shower just before the match began resulted in a few slips from several players, one of which allowed the visitors in for a goal. Apart from this the first half scoring was fairly even.
James Grimley opened the scoring on nine minutes, Raymond Convie followed with one. Collegeland hit two and the above duo hit a further two. Good play from Ruairi Cunningham, John Grimley, and Brian Donaghy didn’t stop Collegeland putting over three in three minutes. A Raymond McBennett free was converted two minutes into injury time. In all it was a half that had too many frees, half time score 1-6, 0-5. Tony and D McGeown and Stephen Donaghy continued to be Clonmore’s driving force with James Grimley moving out around the middle. Collegeland opened the scoring with three points. Clonmore then converted three frees. Raymond Convie made a run at goal but was brought to the ground in the small square with just the keeper to beat, although the referee missed it. Subs Paul Hamill and Gerard Molloy came on for Marty Convie and Paul McNamee. Collegeland hit two points with fifteen minutes to go. There was some good play from Clonmore in places, but not enough midfield possession and running off the ball gave Collegeland too much possession. Some simple errors made it an uphill battle for much of the match. John Grimley had the ball in space and was doing the right thing in his half when he pulled up with cramp and was replaced by Thomas Donaghy on twenty seven minutes. A converted free for Clonmore on thirty minutes was followed by two converted injury time frees for the O’Rahilly men. Final score 1-14, 0-9. The team is surely feeling the absence of Brendan Donaghy who continues to do well for Armagh. With high hopes for the county team this year players must look at how they can fill the gap. This week’s match is against the Grange. Clonmore hosted the All county Armagh U14 Feile semifinal between Harps and Clan Na Gael, a fine display of football by both sides saw Harps the winners.
