Clonmore journied south to Madden for the sixth match making this the quarter way stage of the league.
Madden are about to celebrate their 75th year as a club, and we wish them well in this. Madden got of to a flying start with two points in as many minutes. Clonmore converted a free on 4 minutes. Madden had a point disallowed for a square ball and followed with two wides. A sideline ball ended with a point from James Grimley. Good defence from Clonmore’s backs won a free for over carrying. James Grimley put the ball into Paul Hamill but was closed down the ball came loose to Raymie McBennett whose pulled shot was saved. A Madden free was launched in high and the big forward put it in the back of the net, with 15 minutes gone. They followed with a point and then a copy of the high ball which ended in the net. James Fox launched a long ball over the bar. Paul McNamee was doing his fair share around the centre of the field and as ever D McGeown was showing the way at the back. John Dynes was also doing a good job of man marking. Along with a few wides Madden hit another point. Raymie McBennett and Paul Hamill teamed up again only to see Paul’s punched ball saved. John Grimley made a good run and his lobed shot came off the post at goal level. Joe and Stephen Donaghy started another attack from Clonmore’s half of the field with the final ball going wide. Paul Hamill got the ball in a crowded square but was eventually cut out. Raymond Convie and James Grimley both won frees which were converted to leave it 2-6, 0-7. Thomas Donaghy came in for his brother Brian who picked up a knock in the first half. John Grimley, Raymond Convie and James Fox continued to work well and through their efforts the ball was worked in to Raymie McBennett whose shot was saved. Three wides followed before Paul McNamee fielded well and won a free, Martin Convie and Tony McGeown got the ball into Raymond Convie who pointed. Madden converted a couple of frees as did Clonmore. After couple of wides each James Grimley took a good score and Madden replied, this was repeated with a Raymie McBennett score with 7 minutes to go. John Dynes won a free and Raymond Convie took the ball up the wing and good pass inside to James Grimley gave him space to run at goal. Just on as a sub James Mullen got him self into a good position and duly rattled the net, a great team score. John Grimley pointed with one minute of normal time. Just as importantly D McGeown stopped a Madden attack. A wide came from a Clonmore free and two minutes into injury time Madden pointed. James Fox pointed from long range. In the final throws, the ball came to Raymie McBennett who just couldn’t get the ball over the bar from a tight spot. Final score 2-11 1-13. We tender our deepest sympathy to our esteemed member Catriona Mullen and the entire family circle on the death of Kathleen Kane who was a proud supporter of Clonmore GAC through the years. |
