In a refixed match Clonmore hosted Lissummon and after a month of almost unbroken sunshine the heavens opened just as the match got underway.
With the Clonmore panel still being stretched it at least gave the subs a chance to play a match or two. Unfortunately Raymie McBennett is another name for the injury list. Cathal Cullen came on for him and hit the last point of the night. The conditions surely were the cause of the low scoring with a goal from James Grimley Clonmore’s only score of the half on four minutes. Lissummon pointed on 22 minutes their only score of the half. Tony McGeown and James Grimley scored four points between them in the second half and Lissummon, now with 14 men, with 1-4 left the match a draw. Stephen Donaghy partnering James Fox in the middle of the field got the ball from the throw in and let it go long to where Thomas Donaghy broke it down to Paul McNamee, whose free was converted. D McGeown won a loose ball in the defence and as he did through the whole match was out in front and winning ball after ball. The ball came up to James Grimley whose shot was saved but in fairness was straight at the keeper. Raymond Convie pointed on two minutes. StPauls got of the mark with three converted frees in as many minutes. Good play from James Fox set Raymond Convie up for a well taken point. St Pauls got the first from play on 10 minutes and despite good pressure from Tony McGeown. Joe Donaghy forced a wide and Gerard Molloy blocked a shot. Persistence in the tackle paid off as Stephen Donaghy turned over ball twice in quick succession. Paul McNamee went for a high ball dropping and took a heavy hit but was soon back on his feet. St Pauls got three from play again in as many minutes. Raymond Convie fielded well in the forwards and won a free. James Grimley pointed on 19 minutes. Thomas Donaghy was there to break ball from the kick out. St Pauls pointed after lots of possession from Clonmore. Raymond Convie had a shot low along the ground blocked. Paul Hamill hit a fine point with 5 minutes to go. St Pauls finished with a point to leave it 0-9 , 0-5. James Grimley won frees which were converted on thirty three seven minutes. St Pauls pointed from play. Cathal Cullen came in for Paul Hamill and Daniel Mullen for Gerard Molloy. Daniel got into the game from the off and it is good to see talented players coming through the ranks. Brian Donaghy kept up the pressure on the wing. St Pauls converted a free on fourty minutes. Joe Prunty came in for Thomas Donaghy. Clonmore converted another free after good play from James Fox and Stephen Donaghy. After a point form the Lurgan men James Grimley took another good score. St Pauls got a man in space in front of goal, D McGeown and Joe Donaghy did the right thing kept their position. With the shot getting past them both Stephen Grimley stretched out and saved, a great stop as he was unsighted by the full backs. Added to this it is only fair to mention good kick outs. A few minutes later he again saved a dropping ball. St Pauls took two points to leave it St.Pauls 0-14 Clonmore 0-9.
