On Sunday we travelled to Belleeks with weather more likely to be on the shortest day of year.
A gale blew for most of the match but of course it was the same for both teams. It blew in Clonmore’s favour in the first half but in truth with blustering wind, rain and generally poor conditions it was of no benefit to either team. Poor defending handed Belleeks 2 first half goals and gave them a flattering lead of 5 points at half time. In the second half Clonmore seemed to attack better into the wind, working very hard for each other and were duly rewarded with a goal to take them right back into the game. Unfortunately Belleeks were able to keep the margin between the sides, Clonmore battled to the final whistle. Notable performances for Clonmore were Gerard Molloy, Ruairi Cunningham and James Grimley. Clonmore 1-6; Belleeks 3-5 A small gathering was held on Friday 20th June to mark the cutting of the sod for the new development, with phase one being shower block and changing rooms. Club President John Clearn and Trustee Seamus Cunningham jointly cut the sod. Dignitaries present were Francie Molloy and Malachy Heaney. After the cutting those present had excellent refreshments in the hall. Thanks to Marcella Molloy for these. Chairman Dominic Molloy thanked those present for attending and looked forward to continuing the hard graft and the completion of the project. On this note Saturday night at 8.30 sees a night at the races as a fund raiser for this development, everyone welcome. Good luck to the Armagh senior team for Sunday. |
