Clonmore’s position in the league is in the balance with every point needed. Collegeland are in a safer position with promotion on their minds. Playing against the wind in the first half Clonmore combined well and went into an early four point lead with James Grimley doing most of the scoring.

Clonmore failed to score in the last ten minutes though. Paul Hamill was attacking and defending throughout the whole game and turned over possession on more than one occasion. Stephen Donaghy and John Grimley coped well in the middle of the field. D and Tony McGeown were notably in defence as was Joe Donaghy. A loose ball pulled on by a Collegeland player was parried off the line by Stephen Grimley who picked up an injury as a result. A great save as the shot was a powerful one. Ruairi Cunningham operating at half back linked well with the forwards where Cathal Cullen was winning possession and frees. Collegeland got back into the game, with 5 points in the last 10 minutes, the first half ending 6 – 5 in their favour.

After wides for both sides John Grimley pointed. The dark clouds closed in and there was a heavy shower. A high ball in was punched away by the Clonmore keeper to where Daniel Mullen moved it up the field. A positive side of players being out is that the subs are getting some match practice. It didn’t look good when Collegeland scored a goal, but James Grimley continued to plug away in their half. Points apiece followed and a free to Paul Hamill set up a Clonmore attack. A good pass into James Grimley who had drifted behind the backs had goal written all over it and was well palmed into the net. D McGeown and Paul Hamill kept the pressure on with blocking shots. Thomas Donaghy got possession close to goals and popped it over the bar. Paul McNamee didn’t have a lot to do in full forward as there weren’t enough balls coming in.  Marty Convie had a good game in the half forwards and scored a fine point late in the half. D McGeown made a run up the field and got the ball in a good position to have a shot, unfortunately it went wide of the target. This was the last action of the game and it left the score 1-9 each. A valuable point and if lessons are learned form defeat then maybe a draw isn’t a bad result.

Well done to Brendan Donaghy for another fine performance for Armagh. As ever a bus went from Clonmore to the match and no doubt there will be another one for the final, Armagh for Sam.

A night at the races was held on Saturday night and after some trouble getting the horses into the stalls they were off. The crowd was smaller than expected but those there enjoyed the night. As a fundraiser Kieran Conlon has organised a Clonmore open golf event at “Royal” Brackaville for Saturday 5th July at 5pm. Entrance fee is £10 and there are lots of prizes, there are clubs available from the clubhouse, everyone welcome. With not long to go until the C2C cycle please sponsor one of the cyclists.

Thursday 3rd July at 7.30 sees Clonmore minor ladies take on Mullabawn in the Championship. This will be the first ever championship match for the newly formed Naomh Labhaoise and we wish the girls good luck. Please come along and support all the teams.

On Saturday the North Armagh Gaelic week came to a close. Clonmore underage boys paraded with Naomh Eoin and Clonmore girls followed carrying the Clonmore banners all decked out in their respective jerseys. Clonmore were represented at the GAA Mass celebrated in St. Peters Chapel. Daniel Mullen had the honour of carrying the Clonmore flag at the Mass and at the front of the parade. Clonmore Choir also participated. At the open air concert in Davitt Park, Clonmore were again represented in the headline act 'More Power to your Elbow' in our very own Gerry Cunningham. Well done to Gerry and the organising committee, it was a very successful week of events. Thanks to the committee and others for the help with transport, stewarding etc.
