In a refixed game Clonmore travelled to Lurgan on Friday night last.

With a few players away some of the subs got a start. St.Peters got off to the better start with Clonmore missing a couple of chances to score. Stephen Grimley pulled off a good stop and pressure saw the home side hit a few wides. Thomas Donaghy came in for Joe Prunty after 20 minutes. Raymond Convie came out from full forward and fielded well under the kick outs. James Grimley scored Clonmore’s first half tally of two points. St Peters fared better with 1-8.

Paul Hamill got carried the ball in and fisted it across the goal but it was inches too high for Thomas Donaghy to put it in the net. Paul continued to battle for everything and won a fair bit of possession. Stephen Donaghy also competed for everything which came his way. Cathal Cullen came in for James Mullen. Raymond Convie, James Fox and James Grimley featured in much of Clonmore’s forward play. Good interplay from the three saw the ball worked in to Paul Hamill whose effort was goal bound with the ball punched in by James Fox to make sure. Cathal Cullen and Paul Hamill both followed up with two points each. John Grimley pointed before the final whistle. Final score Clonmore 1-6 St.Peters 1-15

With Madden at the top of the table and Clonmore third from the bottom on paper this one would seem a foregone conclusion. One positive after the county result is we now have Brendan Donaghy back in the green and gold. After a few wides for each side Marty Convie pointed then Madden scored with a converted free. Most of their first half tally of five points were converted frees. Stephen Donaghy tackled well to win a free and James Grimley put his younger brother John through, his shot rebounded and Raymond Convie got the ball, turned onto his right foot and planted the ball in the back of the net. Marty Convie making his mark on the game pointed again. John Grimley found his range and also put in lots of quality ball to the forwards. D and Tony McGeown were never too far away from the action. Brendan and Stephen Donaghy both combined winning possession with good tackling. Paul McNamee made good use of the ball around the middle of the field.

Madden converted a free and Stephen Grimley saved a shot. Marty Convie picked up where he left off with a point. Tony McGeown was subbed for James Mullen. Madden were more wasteful in front of goal than Clonmore. Gerard Molloy got a hand to a ball to stop a goal, the rebounded ball was gathered up by a Madden man who was quickly surrounded. He was deemed to have been fouled and a penalty awarded, it was netted. A point followed and then a hole in defence let them in for another goal, credit Clonmore who never dropped their heads. John Grimley continued to put intelligent passes through and Raymond Convie moved well to claim his fair share of possession. Ruairi Cunningham covered a lot of ground and got up the field to take a good score. James Grimley also moved well in the space in front of goal and won a few frees for his efforts. Daniel Mullen played well around the centre of the field and took a fine score to lift Clonmore back into contention. It was a one point game but Clonmore failed to get the ball into a scoring position and despite several frees in their half the point to draw the game didn’t come. Madden had their fair share of chances to put the game out of site including a 45 but continuing pressure from all the Clonmore players forced wides. No points but a good team effort and a never say die attitude, the bottom half of the league table is anyone’s call with 5 matches to go. A championship first round match is still to be played and Madden are the opponents. Thanks to everyone who sponsored the c2c cycle, the money is going straight into blocks and mortar as we see the next phase of the development progress.  Lotto continues on a Monday night and the committee are busy planning the annual community weekend, events to be confirmed soon.
