After a 2 week break an under strength Naomh Labhaoise minors outfit took the field on Thursday night against a very experienced Mullabrack/Lisummon combination.

With a good few out for various reasons we found ourselves fielding with a lot of 12/13 year olds which in the end proved the difference with the more powerful opposition winning the game well.

Naomh Labhaoise started well and held the opposition to minimal scores for long periods but as the game went on they simply hadn’t the experience or power to hold out a very mobile forward line for Mullabrack. However the ladies never dropped their heads during the game giving it all under extreme pressure. On a difficult night there were worthy performances by many. Hannah Mc Gilly did well in nets and pulled of many fine saves. Maura Cunningham was supported well by Shauna Fanthorpe and Charlene Hughes in an overworked defence. Maria Nugent in her first outing for the club performed excellent and will certainly be a great asset. The U14 midfield partnership of Catherine Mullen and Rebecca Mc Geary worked tirelessly against an older opposition and were supported well By Cathy Convie, Brid O Hagan and Rebecca Mc Alinden. With full forward Sarah O' Hagan having to retire due to injury a major reshuffling had to happen in the forward line. All 5 subs were used and there were first time outings for Orla Mc Geary, Ros Hendron and Louise Donnelly who at 12, even though small in stature give it all against a bigger marker. Nicola Mc Niece and Emma Molloy also entering the game. All in all this game was very much part of the learning curve for the club who are only new to competitive football and are coming up against opposition who are well established in ladies football for many years. However with the same enthusiasm and drive, success will certainly not be far away in the years to come. The Club would like to thank North Board Referee Ciaran Conlan for taking the match at very short notice. Naomh Labhaoise panel: Hannah McGilly, Sarah Jackson, Maura Cunningham, Maria Nugent, Lauren Dynes, Shauna Fanthorpe,Charlene Hughes, Catherine Mullen & Rebecca Mc Geary, Rebecca Mc Alinden, Brid O’Hagan, Cathy Convie, Eve Lavery, Sarah O’Hagan, Eilish Taylor, Emma Molloy, Bronagh Gribben, Louise Grimley, Orla Casey, Nicola McNiece, Grainne Kearney, Claire O’Neill, Ros Hendron, Louise Donnelly, Orla Mc Geary, Ellen Mc Conville, Caoimhe Mc Cann. Next game is against Clan Eireann on Thursday 15th at 7pm in Clonmore.

On Sunday past the U10 and under 14 team had useful challenge games against the Grange. These games proved to be very worth while for experience as we have only a minor team entered in league football. It is envisaged that over the coming weeks to have some more to keep all the panel in regular football. Thanks to the Grange, Paul and Philip for organising the games.

Finally the club would like to commiserate with club players Emily and Catherine Mullen on the death of their grandmother Kathleen Kane, and indeed the entire Mullen and Kane family on their sad loss.
